We have all struggled with the contact for layout. What to include, how much info and how the layout should grace our ever so beautiful website design. I myself had quite a struggle finding the right one for the contact form for Minervity.com. Think I’ve found it but haven’t incorporated it yet. Yup, you guys have to get your fix before I start tweaking this site.

So, like a superhero looking for the criminals, I went out on the Internet to see if I could track down some of the best ways and most functional contact forms available. In this article you will find what I found with complementary downloadable code to set up your form.

Enjoy!

1. HTML Contact Form

This stylish but simple contact form can complement just about any website in a good way. Its simple and straight forward layout makes for an easy way for the visitor to get in touch with you.

The form consists of three sections. Name, Address and Message. Each with its own input fields where the visitor can submit his contact info. You can easily change the border color, background color and setup even more fields if you so need.

You are allowed to change it, add or remove fields that you see fit your needs. You can of course set the tables width to fit the theme of your website or blog.

To change the names of the input fields which will allow you to generate nicely formatted results after submission you can just change the names of the fields to complement the field names used in the delivery system you are using. Consult your server provider to make sure what names they are using in their delivery system.

2. AJAX/PHP Contact Form

This form is a combined AJAX/PHP form using all kinds of fancy features. Simple to modify and a really nice addition to any website. It’s clean and stylish and depending on what you are after you can really add some great design flavor to your form.

Features include:

Form Validation using FormCheck2.

Spam Check.

Display user IP, user agent and referrer in the message.

Display a dialog box when message is sent successfully.

Inputs and Text areas are styled with NiceForms.

Works in the most recent browsers.

All these features will make sure that your form is not only perfectly user friendly but also prevents nasty spam procedures from sending you annoying mass messages. If you should still get spam you can always block the IP address.

3. CSS/PHP Contact Form

This form is created using a combined technique of CSS and PHP to accomplish a stylish and really useful contact form for your website or blog.

It resembles the Simple HTML Contact Form but this one may be a bit more customizable and it has some nice and useful control features which will make it both user friendly and spam safe.

Features include:

Required input field check,

Form validation using a simple captcha system.

Design modification friendly.

Streamlined user experience.

Some really useful features to make sure that your form is fully and correctly filled out when the user submits it.

With a few modifications and graphics you can have a clean and professionally designed contact form for your blog or website.

4. Flash / PHP Contact Form

This particular form uses Flash and PHP to create a simple but quite useful contact form. There isn’t any particular fancy features coming with this form but its streamlined user interface makes the form quite powerful.

However, it being created mostly in Flash you have every chance of making the form quite stunning when it comes to designing it. You can also create new input fields and buttons that match your website or blog theme. You can even go ahead and animate the buttons or the input fields. The entire look of the contact form is up to you.

The easy setup makes this form quite powerful in any website design. A PHP file is included in this download to handle the submission system which you simply upload to your server and you are ready to go.

I am sure that you can add validation, captcha and/or input field check to the form if you have just a little bit of flash experience along with some skills in PHP coding. Fusing the two is quite easy once you get a hang of it.

5. Pure AJAX Contact Form

A simple but well stylised contact form that sure will make your visitors feel welcome to contact you right away.

This form is based on pure AJAX code which makes it truly customizable if you are a little bit familiar with AJAX programming. Add or change any field you need changed to get it just the way you want it.

This form has no particular features to brag about like the more advanced forms. However, it has a nice CC button that will enable the visitor that uses the contact form to send the form submission to him or herself as well.

Implementing this on your site is quite easy. All you have to do after downloading this is either to copy the form code and paste it right where you want it on your site. Or, you can simple just use the original html file and all should be good to go.

Powerful, little hassle and professionally looking.

Recently Google acquired FeedBurner and incorporated it into their online dashboard where you can find services like Google AdSense, Google Analytics and much more. This in turn created a little glitch for people who displayed their RSS Subscriber Count on their blog or website. I was one of them (as you can see in the top left corner) and I was determined to get the feature back online again. Those things are addicting after all! Haha

The problem was that Google, when transferring your account, changed the FeedBurner API to their own which created a problem. I started playing around with PHP to see if I could figure out a way to get myself a workaround for this. After not too long it was clear that the change was not that big of a deal. Just some minor changes and up it went again. Working like it should.

This script will enable you to display the RSS Subscriber Count without using the FeedBurner chicklet.

Here is the work around script and you are of course free to use it on your website.

<?php
$fburl=”https://feedburner.google.com/api/awareness/1.0/GetFeedData?uri=YourURL“;
$ch = curl_init();
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $fburl);
$stored = curl_exec($ch);
curl_close($ch);
$grid = new SimpleXMLElement($stored);
$rsscount = $grid->feed->entry['circulation'];
?>

Put this script on top of your source and change “YourURL” to the URL that’s connected to your Google FeedBurner account. For example, I would have used:

$fburl=”https://feedburner.google.com/api/awareness/1.0/GetFeedData?uri=Minervity“;

To display your RSS Subscriber Count on your page put this code wherever you want in your source:

<?php echo $rsscount; ?>

As a side note for all beginners of PHP using it on blogs. When using WordPress (I guess it is the same for all blog packages) you have to switch to HTML view to incorporate these lines of code. It’s fairly easy and as you can see it doesn’t take much moderation to get it to work.

There you go! It wasn’t much harder then that. This should now be working with the new Google FeedBurner API.

Have Fun!
